What is General aptitude test CUET?

The General Aptitude Test (GAT) is a crucial part of the Central Universities Entrance Test (CUET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India. It assesses your logical and analytical reasoning, mental ability, general knowledge, quantitative reasoning, current affairs, and numerical ability.

Regarding the CUET general test syllabus and the syllabi for other sections, a total of 90 institutions participated in the CUET, and there is an expectation of a significant increase in this number for the CUET Entrance Exam 2024. The upcoming CUET 2024 will consist of three distinct sections, namely Section IA and IB (Languages), Section II (Domain Subjects), and Section III (General Studies), collectively forming the General Test.

CUET General Aptitude Test Overview:

  • Number of Questions: 75 questions in total, distributed equally among Verbal Ability, Quantitative Reasoning, General Awareness, and Reasoning (25 questions each).
  • Marking Scheme: +4 marks for each correct answer, -1 mark for each incorrect answer, and 0 marks for unattempted questions.
  • Total Time: 60 minutes.

  • Importance: Holds a significant 25% weightage in the overall CUET score for most undergraduate programs, though variations may exist based on the specific university and program.

Test Components:

Verbal Ability:

  • Tests reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and basic critical thinking skills.
  • Question types include passages, cloze tests, sentence correction, and other exercises.

Quantitative Reasoning:

  • Assesses understanding of basic mathematical concepts, data interpretation, and problem-solving ability.
  • Includes numerical problems, reasoning questions, and puzzles.

General Awareness:

  • Examines knowledge of current affairs, general science, history, geography, literature, and other domains.
  • Involves factual questions to gauge awareness across various subjects.

Reasoning:

  • Measures the ability to identify patterns, analyze relationships, and draw logical conclusions.
  • Includes verbal and non-verbal reasoning problems.

Preparation Tips:

  • Practice Mock Tests: Familiarize yourself with the format and question types by practicing mock tests and reviewing previous years’ papers.
  • Vocabulary and Reading Skills: Focus on building vocabulary and enhancing reading comprehension skills.

  • Mathematical Proficiency: Sharpen mathematical skills and practice solving data interpretation problems.

  • Stay Informed: Stay updated on current affairs and general knowledge topics relevant to the test.
