For the first time, students will be allowed to choose subjects they didn’t study in Class 12. This eliminates previous subject restrictions, giving students greater flexibility in pursuing higher education across disciplines.

A UGC-appointed expert panel has reviewed various aspects of the exam, including paper structure, duration, syllabus alignment, and operational challenges. The recommendations made by the panel have been approved and will be implemented in CUET UG 2025.
Why Are These Changes Being Introduced in CUET?
The first edition of CUET-UG in 2022 encountered technical glitches and score normalization issues due to multiple exam shifts. The hybrid model introduced in 2024 also faced challenges, leading to last-minute cancellations in Delhi due to logistical reasons.
To prevent such issues, the NTA and UGC have taken measures to make CUET UG 2025 more secure, efficient, and student-friendly.
CUET 2025: Official Statement from UGC Chairman
UGC Chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar announced these changes, emphasizing the benefits of CBT mode and flexible subject selection.
“The exam will be conducted only in CBT (computer-based test) mode from 2025. We conducted the exam in hybrid mode last year, but we will move to CBT mode because it is much more reliable and secure as compared to other modes of examination,” he said in an interview with PTI.
He also highlighted the flexibility in subject selection, stating:
“Candidates will now be allowed to opt for subjects in CUET-UG that they haven’t studied in Class 12, enabling students to explore interdisciplinary education.”
