What is IPMAT?

Integrated Program in Management Aptitude Test is the entrance exam for admission into the 5-year Integrated Program in Management (IPM) offered by IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak, and several other IIMs. total of 7 IIM’s provide the IPM programme and you have to appear of one of the 3 exams to get into admission to one of those, but we recoomend our studens to appear to all of them so it maximises their chances to get a seat into IIMs. It’s a unique opportunity for students to get into IIM right after Class 12th.

Can You Give IPMAT Without Maths in Class 12?

Unlike popular belief, none of the IIMs have a clear rule that Mathematics at Class 12 level is a prerequisite to apply for it. Any student from any stream – Science, Commerce, or Arts – can apply as long as they have a specified percentage in 10th and 12th (60% in the majority of IIMs) to apply.

But there’s an important point to know:

  • For Indore and Rohtak, the syllabus of the exam comprises topics from Class 11th and 12th Mathematics. So, even if you didn’t study Maths in school, you will have to prepare for advanced-level Quantitative Aptitude to clear the exam.
  • Conversely, JIPMAT (for IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya) has lesser difficulty Quantitative Aptitude questions, typically from Class 8–10 level Maths, so it is easier for non-Maths background students.

So YES, if you are a non-Maths student, you can appear for IPMAT. But for IPMAT Indore and Rohtak, prepare to study Mathematics of Class 11–12 during your preparation.

How to Prepare for IPMAT Without a Math Background?

If you are a non-Maths student and looking to clear IPMAT Indore or Rohtak, you will have to learn and practice higher Math concepts, as the Quantitative Aptitude section is tough and asked in short answer format in Indore and also comprises of Class 11 and 12 Math concepts.

This is how you should to prepare:

1. Cover the Basics – Then Move to Higher Math

Start with strengthening foundational concepts (Class 8–10) like:

  • Percentages, Profit & Loss, SI & CI
  • Averages, Ratios & Proportions
  • Number Systems
  • Basic Algebra
  • Simple Equations

Then move on to advanced math topics, such as:

  • Functions & Graphs
  • Quadratic Equations
  • Progressions (AP/GP)
  • Logarithms
  • Permutation & Combination
  • Probability
  • Matrices and Determinants
  • Sets, Relations & Venn Diagrams
  • Coordinate Geometry
  • Trigonometry
  • Mensuration & Geometry (2D/3D)
  • Inequalities & Modulus
  • Statistics (Median, Mean, Mode, Standard Deviation)

Note: You’ll be expected to solve higher-level math questions quickly and accurately, so building concept clarity and speed is crucial.

2. Work on Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning

Focus on:

  • Reading Comprehension (Inference-based questions)
  • Vocabulary (Synonyms, Antonyms, Idioms & Phrases)
  • Para-jumbles and Sentence Correction
  • Critical Reasoning
  • Logical Puzzles and Series
  • Statement & Conclusion-based questions

3. Take Mock Tests, Analyze, and Repeat

  • Appear for Mocks
  • Use detailed mock analysis to understand your weak points.
  • Practice sectional tests for Quant, Verbal, and LR.
  • Work on your time management and question selection strategy.

4. Consider Joining a IPMAT Coaching
